The Saint Louis Sharks Wrestling team took a trip to Leroy Pine River Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, and secured a fifth regional title in a row.
The team dominated in their first dual of the night, winning the matchup 48-19 against the Pine River Bucks. The Sharks then went on to face the Holton Red Devils in the finals, where they secured the victory with a score of 70-6.
Coach Kevin Kuhn had this to say about the Sharks performance, “I feel like the only thing that could have made that regional better would have been being able to host it. After having 11 straight district titles, you would think we could host at least one regional.” He then went on to state, “Five regional titles in a row identifies us as an established program. Anyone can have one good team that makes a run and walks away with a regional title, but five really proves that we have consistently outworked other programs.”
It is clear that the Sharks have seen some consistent success. In addition to the two victories, another great moment on the night was senior Michael Borie stepping back into team action and securing two victories after facing an injury in the pre-season. Borie stated, “It felt surreal to be back; it was a moment I had been dreaming of for months now, and I’m just grateful to have the opportunity to compete this season.” This was not only a special night for the upperclassmen, but also for freshmen like Caiden Ramirez, who got to experience his first team regional championship. He stated, “It felt amazing watching the team win. It’s exciting to see all the hard work from early in the season to now start to pay off.”
The hard work is with no doubt paying off for the Sharks, who have officially punched their ticket to the team state finals in Kalamazoo once again.
