The NFL 2025-26 regular season has wrapped up and with that comes the playoffs. In 1920, when the NFL first started, the team with the best record in the regular season were crowned champions. Then in 1932, the NFL playoffs were created and evolved into the multi-team tournament we know of today. With the playoffs expanding significantly over the years, many great teams have risen to the top.
In the 2024 regular season, The Detroit Lions were named the number one seed for the NFC after going 15-2 in the regular season and winning the NFC first place bye-week for the playoffs. Also joining them were the Kansas City Chiefs who also went 15-2, gaining the number one seed for the AFC and the first place bye-week.
Although It was looking good for the Lions, they lost out in a disappointing divisional round to the Washington Commanders (45-31) ending a historical regular season run for them. The Chiefs made it all the way to the Super Bowl LIX but ended up losing out to the Philadelphia Eagles (40-22) who became the Super Bowl LIX champions.
Now after a dramatic and unpredictable 2025 NFL regular season, the two teams who were the face of the NFL at the end of the 2024 regular season, are nowhere to be found. The Lions and Chiefs missed out of the playoffs after both teams having a disappointing and injury filled season. “I thought the Lions season this year was a complete disappointment. We need to hire a new offensive coordinator and figure out a solution to the constant injuries on the defensive side of the ball,” said senior Michael Borie.
The Seattle Seahawks won the number one seed in the NFC this year after going 14-3 in the regular season. Also joining the Seahawks for the number one seed are the Denver Broncos who also went 14-3. The Texans, Bills, and Patriots all won their games in the first round on the AFC side. On the NFC side, the Rams, 49ers, and Bears were crowned victorious and will be moving onto the second round.
With Super Bowl LX happening in a few weeks, Feb. 8, 2026, many people are speculating who will win. There are a lot of possibilities on who could win it all but the team who is favored to win is the Seahawks. Xander Brock had this to say, “Playoffs this year have been absolutely incredible. I’m disappointed in my Steelers for how they performed and it’s unacceptable that we allowed Sheldon Rankins to score. I also thought the first round had one of the craziest games in a while. I think the Seahawks and Bills will face each other in the playoffs.”
