The time has come, and the 2025-2026 Saint Louis Sharks wrestling team has kicked off its season with two trips to Howell in the last week. On Dec. 3, 2025, the Sharks took the trip to face off against two tough opponents. In the first dual of the night, they took on division two no. 7 ranked Fowlerville, ultimately winning the match up with a score of 37-26! Alex Rodriguez stated “It was a good win, but we didn’t perform to the best of our abilities.” Though it was an exciting win, it is clear that the Sharks are hungry for more.
Next the Sharks faced division one Midland High, pulling off yet another impressive victory winning the dual 60-17. It was a dominant performance for the Sharks, and a reminder of the expectation the team carries. This was clearly a good day for the Sharks, and a great way to start the season off.
To cap off the opening week, the Sharks traveled back to Howell High School Dec. 6, for the Herm Wilkinson Highlander Classic tournament. Overall, the Sharks had a great showing. Finishing in first place over the weekend were: Owen Fogel, Drew Challender, and Alex Rodriguez. This was a great weekend for Rodriguez, as he also picked up his 150th win! Following in fourth place was Tiger Russell, and finally in sixth place Carson Zacharko, and Javier Anger.
Similarly, the JV sharks had an impressive weekend as well, with several wrestlers placing first in their brackets: Caiden Ramirez, Landen Collins, Paul Eldredge, Cameron Hamp, Brayden Geer, and Noah Fowler-Meza. Senior Michael Borie who spent the day coaching the JV Sharks stated, “Our younger wrestlers, overall, were pretty dominant. Having six first place finishes was a big accomplishment. We will continue to develop our young guys for the future.” It was an impressive first week for the wrestling team and sets the tone for what’s to come in the near future.
