As the temperature drops and the halls fill with early signs of winter, anticipation is heating up for two of the school’s most eagerly awaited athletic seasons, girls basketball and wrestling. The students and staff are eager to see what the students will bring to the court and the mat this year. Preseason practices began and the students got back into gear for the season and the anticipation has started to build.
Everyone has a different way of preparing themselves for their upcoming season. Junior Courtney VanAlstine shares, “I think the biggest challenge is getting all the freshmen on the same page- Teaching them the plays that they didn’t get in middle school without them getting too frustrated. I believe this season is going to be good, and I’m excited to see what happens at our first game. ” She is very thankful for the opportunity to play basketball, and she shows lots of courage and excitement for this season. This season marks a fresh opportunity to build on last year’s progress. Returning players are stepping into leadership roles, guiding younger athletes through tough practices and conditioning. With a mix of experienced starters and promising newcomers, fans are expecting a fast-paced, competitive season.
Meanwhile, the wrestling team is gearing up for what could be another great season. Early morning practices and intense drills have pushed these athletes to prepare both mentally and physically. Newcomers are adapting to the wrestling lifestyle and several returners are aiming for deep postseason runs. Sophomore Carson Zacharko says, “Something I learned last year that I’m bringing to this season is how the program is structured and how we succeed this season by being a family. Just like last year. ” With new talent joining the lineup, fans can expect hard-fought matches and plenty of standout moments from newcomers as well as returning wrestlers.
Whether it’s the echo of basketballs hitting the court or the sound of the wrestlers drilling takedowns, one thing is clear, this winter season promises determination, teamwork, and school pride. Students are encouraged to show up and show out and support both teams as they kick off what could be a thrilling start to winter sports.
