Daylight savings ended Nov. 2. and St. Louis High School students remembered to set their clocks back one hour.
Some students say it’s nice to get an extra hour of sleep, however, some say it’s just an inconvenience.
Daylight savings was originally created for farmers to get more sunlight to work in the evening. However, farmers today no longer use this. Freshman Izzy Bass states, “I think Daylight savings is just old and not needed. I like to stay on the same sleep schedule.”
Junior Caleb Paez, agrees with Bass’s statement. He says, “I agree with that. I think that daylight savings time is outdated and probably not as useful in 2025, as it was back when it was first brought up.” Paez continues, “I feel like it has a lot of effects on people. Like messing up their internal clocks, but it doesn’t actually do anything major to justify keeping it.”
Some students, like Freshman Kazren LaLone, states they do enjoy the added hour. LaLone expresses, “I like daylight savings because it’s bright out in the morning, and dark at night. It’s very nice because I can see when I need to.” Many students at SLHS do not agree with LaLone’s statement. They’d much rather stay on schedule like Bass.
Overall, it looks like a lot of SLHS students do not enjoy daylight savings. Unfortunately, no laws have changed, so it looks like they will be changing the clocks again in the future.
