Mrs. Sura took her advisory to Nikkari Elementary School, Nov. 4, to mentor the students and just be good role models to them. They helped them with their classwork, they played with them and just kept them company throughout the time they were there. Olivia Coffin, Grace Devine, Olivia Brown, Ashleigh Devine, and Gracie Lombard are just some of the students who participated in the mentorship.
With this being Coffin and Devine’s first year doing something like this, they both said that they would do it again. Coffin stated, “I really enjoyed doing it, and I have never done something like this before. I definitely recommend it to other people, especially if they like kids. It’s so fun playing with kids and talking with them, they look up to us, so the more people, the better.” Coffin continued, “I really enjoyed going back to the school where I grew up and seeing all the changes the school has had in the past years.”
Devine, who also has never done something like this before, stated, “I love having the ability to make a kid’s day by just talking to them and playing with them. The kids really enjoyed having us there.” This was a perfect opportunity for the high school students to give back to their community and help the elementary students, and show them how to be good role models.
They go every first Tuesday of the month. Lombard said, “Yes, I enjoyed it. I made some new friends, I played with the kids at recess, and ate with them at lunch. I didn’t go the first time they went, but I went the second time. This is my first time doing something like this and I am looking forward to going again.”
