The St. Louis High School cross country team wrapped up their season at the Deckerville regionals Oct. 26, 2025.
Regionals was a great success for the team and both the boys and the girls had a great race. Though no one made it to state this year, Lexi Kinder was only one place away from qualifying. The top 15 girls made it, and she placed 16th out of 80 Division 3 girls racing at regionals. Prior to that, Oct. 15, the team competed at their final JPC jamboree meet in Shepherd. The girls team had success with Madison Lemert and Sydney Dickman making second team all conference and Kinder making first team all conference. On the boys team, Hayden Shattuck also got an honorable mention this season.
While the team has done an amazing job at making the season fun and productive, the seniors expressed a mix of emotions as the season came to an end. Seniors include: Hayden Shattuck, Jacob Erskin, Elijah Shuart, and Ben Godfrey. Erskin said, “I’m really sad that this will be my last year with the team since I love this sport. I think the season went well. I was able to get back to where I was and do better. I also got to see a lot of team members accomplish so much which made the season even better.”
The coach, Tim DeJong said, “I have been very encouraged with how this season has gone. A great coach left, and a new coach arrived, and they embraced the new team dynamics and battled through injuries. Through it all, they have been resilient. We are running our best at the end of the season, which is what every cross country coach desires.”
The team has worked very hard this year and has shown improvement in both skill level, team spirit, and sportsmanship. It was, overall, a successful and exciting cross country season.
