The St. Louis Varsity football team played the homecoming game Friday, Sept. 3, home versus Pinconning and won by the final score of 3-0.
The Sharks’ defense shined and held the Spartans at bay time and time again before capitalizing on a field goal for the game’s only score. Senior Maddox Cline jogged onto the field late in the game to attempt the first field goal of the season.
Sophomore Drew Challender said, “All my trust was in Maddox. I just had to get the hold down and everything was rushed.” Challender then added, “It went in and I went over to Maddox and celebrated.”
Another player, sophomore Javi Anger, said, “I was nervous. I knew I had to keep giving every play with all I had or we could lose our game. One bad play and it could have gone the other way.” He then said, “After that field goal, I was excited, but knew the game was way too close to express that.”
Finally Sophomore Ryder Siefka added, “Personally, my feelings on the field goal attempt were very nervous. I was blocking on the end and the only thoughts going through my head were to not let the guy in front of me block.” Siefka later said, “The atmosphere after the field goal was ecstatic.”
Overall, the Sharks took on the win and the team seemed pretty happy and ready for the next game. The next game was against Farwell on Friday,/ Sept.20.
