The Saint Louis High School band performed its first performance of the season Aug. 29, during halftime of the varsity football game at Wheeler Field.
During half time the band performed its completely new show, “Journey”. This was the band’s first performance of the season, and the students were ready to play. The two songs were fan favorites, and included: “Any Way You Want It,” and “Don’t Stop Believing” for all the spectators.
Band director, Mr. Lawhorne stated, “Even though our first performance was at the Loons game, the first halftime performance tends to have more steps, but overall, I think we did a great job.”
Even though this is the first performance of the season, some of the seniors realized that this is their last year in marching band. “Though I make jokes about being done with band, I really will miss it. I’ll miss the people and the environment,” stated senior Rebekah Ross.
She added, “Even though we are near the end, I believe I’ve accomplished more than I wanted to as a band student. I never thought I would stay in the band this long, so being able to say I’ve done stuff like playing in the middle of Walmart and going to states, I truly believe it’s been a true accomplishment.”
This performance was a great first impression for the football season. Leia Firman, a junior at SLHS stated, “I think this was a very good performance in my opinion. I think it is one of their best and I think it is far better than when I heard them practicing. I am very excited to see the rest of their performances throughout the football season.”
The band’s next performance will fall Sept. 13th at the homecoming football game.
