The St. Louis varsity wrestling team was in action Wednesday, Jan. 22 against Clare and Gladwin at home for the Jack Pine Conference.
The Sharks opened the night against Gladwin with a win by the score of 61-6. They finished the night routing Clare 70-11.
The wrestlers who finished the night 2-0 were Rudy Clapp, Alex Rodriguez, Colin Kuhn, Nado Soto, Maddox Cline, Drew Challender, and Raman Frye. The wrestlers who finished the night with one win include: Olivia Bartlett, Owen Fogel, Devanz Svelti-Cruz, Dillon Downs, Michael Borie Jr., Karson Tweh, Xander Brock, and Tiger Russell.
Kuhn, a senior captain on the Shark wrestling team, came away with two pins in his matches. He said, “I could’ve wrestled a little better, but the team still came out on top so overall it’s a win.”
“The team looks very good at the moment. I think we are peaking at the right time, and I am excited for what the postseason brings for this team,” said Challender, a junior captain on the team.
Justin Rodriguez, a senior on the Sharks’ team said, “Wednesday duels are always difficult for the team, but our guys locked in and got the job done. Now it’s just time to turn our focus to Saturday.”
The Sharks were back in action Saturday Jan. 25 in Leslie as well as Shepherd as the team’s split for the weekend.
