The Sharks girls’ and guys’ cross-country team competed Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Delta Two Mile, and there were many outstanding performances on the day.
The guys took first place overall, and many personal records were set on the day. Taking a tight first-place finish and achieving a PR was Landon Pestrue with a time of 10:14.31. A close second went to Ben March, with a PR of 10:14.50. Alex Rodriguez PR’d and took seventh with a time of 11:12.15, Hayden Shattuck PR’d and took eighth with a time of 11:14:62, and Colin Kuhn took 11th with a time of 11:21:40.
The girls took second place overall, and their top performance came from Jaiden Dickman who took second place with a time of 12:37.09. Taking 11th was Abby Dice with a time of 13:48.85, 13th went to Lilly Mann who PR’d with a time of 13:59.00. Halle Hoyt PR’d and took 18th place with a time of 14:20.56, Aeralyn Leonard took 19th with a PR of 14:21.64, and Natalie Lemert secured the 20th place spot with a time of 14:28.23.
Senior Natalie Lemert commented, “It was much better conditions than years past, but it was still a struggle. Since we are used to running three miles, the switch to only two is a mental struggle for me personally. I was incredibly proud of the team, and I think everyone performed well. I’m so excited for the rest of the season and to see how we will continue to progress!” On the other hand, Dickman stated, “It was very fun to run only two miles again. It was really nice weather and the course was fun. I think our team performed really well.”
Additionally, the rest of the performances on the guys’ side consisted of Gavin Yarnell running a PR with a time of 13:43.03 and Jackson Schulz PR’d with a time of 13:48.75. For junior varsity, Parker Wing took 48th with a time of 13:34.30, Jacob Erskin took 57th with a time of 14:12.68, Remington Snyder took 84th with a time of 15:47.27, Micah Baxter took 91st with a time of 16:47.99, and Caleb Paez took 92nd with a time of 17:32.57. On the girls’ side, Annah Hess PR’d and took 32nd with a time of 15:53.26, and Kenadie Henry PR’d and ran as a JV member with a time of 16:02.75.
