Two days in person learning before break, was it worth it?

On Dec. 22, St. Louis High School went back to giving the option of in-person learning. Many of the students who were in-person learners before the order to close high schools was announced, switched to online classes because they got a glimpse of how virtual classes work. However, the students who did go back, have mixed emotions about only going for two days to spread germs to take home for the holidays.

Kaylyn Collins, an SLHS junior, states,“I think the school should have given us the two days extra onto our break because we earned it.” Collins continued with, “For me the transition was super easy. I had all my work done and turned in.”

Madison Lambert, an SLHS senior, explains,“I do not think it was a smart idea to open back up two days before break. Most schools aren’t going back till January and are already on break and had planned to do these last two days. A lot of students didn’t come because it was pointless to come. We barely did anything in class, and with holidays right around the corner, none of the students have the right mindset in my opinion.”

Gracie Shattuck, SLHS junior, states,“I didn’t like that the school was opened two days before winter break, but it wasn’t up to me, so I just have to deal with it. The transition kind of threw me off my game. So now that we have all seven classes each day again, I feel like I have less time to get my work done for certain classes. I have to learn to manage my time around going to school again.”

Although many staff and students wanted to go back to school, was this really the best option? In many ways it wasn’t. Students went back to school just to spread germs for the holidays and have their whole schedule thrown off. This is also why many students who were once in-person learners switched to virtual learning because they didn’t want the constant worry of having their education messed with anymore than it already has.
