The New York Times is an original newspaper website, consisting of up-to-date news across the United States, but what’s even more entertaining are the games it offers on its website.
There are a total of nine games on the website, and most of them are free except for the famous game “Crossword” that was released in 1942. Later in 2014, more games were released which finally made it a more diverse website. One well-known game is called “Wordle,” in which the player has to guess the word in under six guesses. The chosen words are randomized so it’s nearly impossible to guess the right word the first time. Other games that are in the New York Times are “Connections,” “Spelling Bee,” and more. The most recent game that was released in 2024 is “Strands,” which allows the player to connect letters to form a word within the category.
Avid “Wordle” and “Connections” player Gracie Lombard enjoys playing the games that New York Times has offered. According to Lombard, “I really like the NYT games, even though I’m terrible at most of them. I play the daily ‘Wordle,’ ‘Connections,’ ‘Strands’ on NYT, but I also play other similar daily games such as ‘Bandle,’ ‘Songless,’ and ‘Taylordle.”
Another experienced player is senior Rowan Harris. An active player on the NYT games, she states, “I love the NYT games, and I play them everyday. I try my best and I always connect with other people about it by asking them if they got today’s ‘Wordle’ or talking about how hard ‘Connections’ are. I love doing the ‘Mini Crossword’ and ‘Connections’ because I love crosswords in general and it’s always exciting getting the hardest category first on ‘Connections.’”
Most of the NYT games are free and allow anyone to play on any device. Students can tell that it’s great entertainment to improve one’s mind and focus through many different word games that NYT has to offer.
