Friends star Matthew Perry recently passed away at 54 after being found unresponsive in his hot tub.
Perry was not only an actor, but he also prided himself in helping others with their addictions, having gone through an addiction himself. In fact, he wrote a book about his struggle with addiction, as well as his time on Friends. Perry said, “When I die, I know people will talk about Friends, Friends, Friends. And I’m glad of that, happy l’ve done some solid work as an actor, as well as given people multiple chances to make fun of my struggles on the world wide web… But when I die, as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things I did to try to help other people. I know it won’t happen, but it would be nice.”
Senior Claire Hubble was a big Friends fan, and was disappointed by the news. In fact, she said, “I was devastated because I grew up watching Friends with my mom, and Chandler was my favorite character. I know Matthew Perry has dealt with a lot of issues in his life and it’s just sad to see him go so young.” Hubble also explained that his death was shocking, especially because of the way that he died.
Another Friends fan, senior Kylie Acker, was devastated about the death of Perry. She said, “My jaw dropped when I found out that Matthew Perry died. I’m really sad about it. I definitely wasn’t expecting it. I was hoping it was fake news, but it unfortunately wasn’t.” Charlie Lyon is also a Friends fan, and has been watching since he was a kid. In fact, he said, “He was my favorite character. I was very surprised. He was only 54.”
The intro to Friends has already been updated with a picture of Perry and a line that reads, “In memory of Matthew Perry 1969-2023,” which displays for a few seconds before the usual intro begins.
