Jojo Siwa has recently released a new song, causing mixed emotions for all St. Louis High School students.
Siwa started her singing/dancing career on the popular TV show Dance Moms, where she gained her fame early on at the age of nine. After the show, she started her official singing career, along with a Youtube channel. For a while, Siwa was most famous for her pop songs along with her notorious “Jojo Bows.” Siwa’s previous content had been geared toward the younger generation, but all of this has taken a drastic change with the release of her new song, “Karma,” which is certainly not for children. While Siwa is an adult now, this has not stopped the controversy that is quickly spreading due to Siwa’s new, adult style.
Aside from the controversy surrounding Siwa’s new style, there has also been annoyance among fans due to the amount of advertising that Siwa has done for this new single. On Instagram, Siwa has posted 50 plus posts leading up to the release of “Karma,” which teased scenes from the music video as well as clips from the song. Many fans agreed that this amount of advertising for a single song was overly excessive, and with the amount of teaser posts there have been, fans had already heard almost the entire song before it was even released.
This dramatic transition of Jojo Siwa has caused quite the stir online. Due to the fact that Siwa’s fanbase does include younger generations, many people have agreed this was a poor choice for her public image. One student who was particularly disturbed by the video was sophomore Olivia Lane. Lane was appalled by Siwa’s new look, and said, “I think it’s weird and a little much for a music video.” Lane also added, “I think Jojo should go back to the bow-bows.”
While there are quite a few negative opinions surrounding the new song, there are some fans of it as well. For example, junior Bethany Bowerman is an avid supporter of the single, and even knows some choreography from the video as well, despite its recent release. In fact, she said, “I absolutely loved her new song. It captured the transition from adolescence to adulthood. This is a completely new field that could extend her popularity.” Bowerman also added, “I honestly don’t know why this content is restricted to adult content. I’d be okay showing this to my kids in the future.”
