The football team won its first game of the season Friday, Sept. 1, but during halftime, there was a huge show from the marching band and pom-pom team!
During the poms performance, all members were dancing their hearts out to make the best of the performance. The song they performed to was called “Sushi” by Hoodie Allen, a very jammable song. One of the performers was Gracie Lombard, a sophomore and two-year varsity pom member, who said, “I think the team did really well since it was our first performance of the season. We do have some new team members this year, and I think as a whole, we did great. It’s going to be a great season so the future is looking promising.”
Besides the pom-pom performance, an 80’s jam showcase featured by the marching band was a great performance for the audience and an overall amazing show. The main song they played was “Call Me” by Blondie. One band member, senior Hannah Bobzien, said, “The performance was pretty good. I couldn’t hear the quality of the sound we got, but everything turned out nice. Personally, I felt a little anxious since it was my first performance as drum major. There was a lot of confusion about the movement of the drums, but in the end, we pulled it off. I feel we have amazing potential to progress and become a really amazing band.”
Director of the drumline and the announcer himself, Derreck Jewell, had a lot to say about both the pom squad and the marching band. He started off with the marching band, stating, “The band looked really good, based on the time and the effort they put in. I’m looking forward to the future, but this is a good band.” On the other hand, he also had some stuff to say about the pom squad. He said, “I thought the squad worked together really well, and they had lots of promise for the future and what holds for them.”
More awaits for the performers and the audience alike as their next performances will be on Friday, Sept. 22, as the football team will face off against Nouvel.
