Shark wrestlers competed at the Ithaca Invite and Super 16 Jan. 21.

Most of the wrestlers went to the Ithaca Invite and dominated with a score of 205 points. Collin Kuhn, Justice Onstott, Martin Wiggins, and Alex Rodriguez traveled to Hudson to compete in the Super 16 tournament.

The wrestlers who were ranked high on michigangrappler.com, a well known wrestling website went to Hudson, so they could get some high level competition. Coaches felt like those who traveled to Ithaca needed more mat time and that they would get that experience in Ithaca. This year’s wrestling team is quite young and some athletes need more experience on the mat.

Kuhn and Rodriguez each took 6th. Justice Onstott was third, and Martine Wiggins did not place, and went 2-2 at Hudson

Meanwhile at Ithaca Paul Eldredge took first place. Nado Soto, Owen Fogel, Drew Challender, and Udter Tweh all took second place. Oleysa Mullins took 3rd. Ben March, Josh Vorries, Dillon Downs, Jon Flores-Nunez, Nate Moore, Ray Frye, and Ramon Anguiano all placed fourth. RJ Macias took fifth  place.

Head Coach Kevin Kuhn commented, “Paul Eldredge stepped up and pinned his way through the tournament. Congratulations to him for bringing home his first varsity tournament title.”

Junior Ben March expressed, “When it comes to how the team did on Saturday we did a good job of locking up the tournament at Ithaca. Individually, I definitely had some highs on the day but also got some learning experiences.”

The wrestlers will be back in action in the Shark tank Wednesday, Jan. 24, for their last conference action of the season.
