For the first week of boys’ basketball games, the Shark Tank was very busy. The opponents for both teams on the week were Saginaw Arts and Science Academy and Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

To start off the week, Tuesday, Dec. 6, the JV boys and varsity boys traveled to SASA. The JV boys lost 46-51. The top scorer on the night was Landon Pestrue with 14 points. The varsity boys won 49-48. The top two scorers on the night were Thomas Zacharko with 24 points and Wisdom Zanquo with nine points.

The JV boys were at the Shark Tank Tuesday, Dec. 8. The team lost 24-53. The top scorer on the night was Bentley Inbody with 15 points.

Freshman Hayden Shattuck commented, “It was a very tough loss that we all had to endure together. We were all very upset after this game, but I think for it being our first week of games, we did pretty well. I think we did very well at working as a team and pushing each other throughout the duration of the game. I just hope that we can push this loss aside and keep our minds focused on the end of the season.”

To end week one, the varsity boys traveled to MLS Friday, Dec. 9. The team lost 57-72. The top two scorers on the night were Thomas Zacharko with 20 points and Wisdom Zanquo with 11 points.

Junior Josh Dew commented, “I think our team shot really well on Friday. However, we did not execute our game plan. I think our biggest issue was we were all playing as individuals, and that is what was holding us back from playing our best. I hope that we can keep our heads up and push through for the rest of the season.”

The boys’ teams will be back in action next week traveling to Standish Sterling Tuesday, Dec. 13. The JV team will travel to Ithaca Thursday, Dec. 15. The varsity team will play Ithaca at the Shark Tank Friday, Dec. 16.
