St. Louis High School took on its first track invite at Saginaw Valley State University Invite, March 25.

The meet was a great start to the season, getting some rust off and letting new athletes have a low-stress first meet. This meet took place inside and was not a scored meet. Having this meet not scored was a great way to start the season to get everyone ready for the competitive season!

Drew Marshall shot put and discuss coach expressed, “The first meet went great. Usually, the first meet of each season comes with a lot of nerves, but everyone seemed able to overcome those and did a great job.”

The girls’ track team had many victories this meet. Those who placed first were Natalee Hoyt in the polt vault, then Hoyt, Monika Borie, and Libby Munderloh in the 4×300, Jaiden Dickman, Payton Kuhn, Gracie Shattuck, and Munderloh in the 4×600, Munderloh also got first in the 400m dash, and then Jaiden Dickman in the 1600m.

Moving on to the other placers, Maude Zolue placed 3rd in long jump, Monika Borie placed 6th in the 400m, Lillie Shattuck 5th place for 60m hurdles, Kiersten Wenzlick placed 6th for the 60m hurdles, and then Natalee Hoyt placed 2nd in the 60m dash.

The boys also had some great wins. Starting with Nate March who placed 1st in the 1600m dash, Ben Dousuah who placed 2nd in long jump and then 4th in shot put, Ben March earned 2nd in the 3200m, Michael Baysah in 6th place in the 200m dash, Aaron Bowerman was 3rd palace in 1600m and the 4x600m relay.

Marshall stated, “As far as the throwers go, there are plenty of  little things that can be improved on between now and the post-season. However, I think the meet at SVSU showed that we are in a great spot as far as fundamentals and technique go. Now it’s about just fine-tuning those movements and continuing to get stronger along this way.”

Some other great performances from the SLHS track and field team were Conner Daniels who placed 8th in high jump, Monica Borie placed 7th in high jump, Michael Baysah, Daniels, Nato Soto, and Boone Childs all placed 7th in 4×300, Brook Campbell placed 7th in shot put along with Kylie Acker who placed 8th, Maude Zolue in 8th place for long jump, and Adry Munoz placed 7th in 200m dash.

Thrower Brook Campbell expressed, “I’m looking forward to having a great season and to improve from last season. My favorite thing about the track meet was how well everyone cheered and worked hard the whole time.”

Marshall continued, “This season I’m looking forward to making memories with the team and building a relationship with the program. These athletes have been a joy to work with so far, and we only just started the season! Really excited to see them progress and improve throughout the season!”

The SLHS Track and Field had a great first meet and will continue to put up a fight this season.  Due to weather conditions, the Ithaca Invite has been postbound to a later date. St. Louis High School will be holding a meet April 12.
