The St. Louis Sharks are back in action and ready to attack at the start of a new school year as of Sept. 4.

The start of a new school year is typically a bit stressful for the staff with everything that has to be done to get the students ready to start school, but this year things were different. Teachers were thrown curve balls and some are teaching classes they have never taught before. Student Chelsea Bailey says, “There seems to be a lot of changes with the teachers having to teach different classes this year, but I know everything will go smoothly.”

Since Mr. Morey left, Mr. Burleson has taken over teaching civics which means that he cannot teach his Earth Science class. Therefore, Mrs. Everitt is the only other teacher able to teach Earth Science, so she has taken on that task, and it will be her first year teaching a science class. This is only one of the many changes about classes.

Drama club is back! After many many years, the final decision has been made to bring drama club back to get students involved in new things. This is a great opportunity for the kids in St. Louis to figure out if they want to take that path on life or just to have a little fun. Mr. Miller is the point of contact for anyone interested in the club.

As of now, the students are excited for homecoming! Homecoming this year is very early. The homecoming game will take place Friday Sept. 28, and the dance will be the following day. That week leading up to these dates will be filled with fun activities and events getting the students and players ready for the big game. Homecoming is more than a football game and a dance where the students get all dressed up. Homecoming is about getting together as a community and showing pride for the school.

Yet, the most exciting change of all, is the big change to the Shark Scene newspaper! The paper used to be a link on the St.Louis Schools website, but now- it has its own website! How exciting is that? Hopefully this will make it a lot easier for students to access and look at previously published articles.

As there are many changes this year, just go with the flow and make the most of this year. Take chances, get involved, and have fun. Highschool should be a fun experience and, most of all, it should challenge students to find themselves and figure out what they may want to do in their future.
