St. Louis High School held an assembly wrestling dual meet against the Shepherd Bluejays and Mio Wednesday, Dec. 15. The first portion of the meet was held during school hours so the whole student body and staff could come out and support the Sharks!

Although this was a wrestling meet, there was a lot of participation from the students. The poms had an amazing first performance at the midpoint of the meet. Additionally, the pep band did a magnificent job at hyping up the students and the whole crowd was excited by their songs.

Senior Aaron Bowerman said, “This has been the most memorable part of my wrestling season, being able to show up and help cheer on and support the team whilst still able to play in the Pep band where we played some real banger songs.” On the action side of things, the Sharks got off to a firing start with senior Braden Ball getting a pin not too long after his match started. Then in the match following, Freshman Colin Kuhn kept the standard and also pinned his opponent.

Two match-winners on the night included Justice Onstott, Nato Soto, Braden Ball, and Colin Kuhn.

Ball stated, “It felt really special to wrestle in front of the student section. I’ve never been able to do anything like that before. I was nervous at first but once everyone was there and cheering it just felt absolutely amazing.”

The Sharks demolished the Bluejays in a 71-6 win. Mio was also defeated by the Sharks with a score of 39-33. Coach Kevin Kuhn stated,We looked great against Shepherd and had a bit of a letdown against Mio; but still came away with a nice win.” The Sharks are now 3-1 and ranked 5th in Division 4.

The Sharks next compete Wednesday, Jan. 5 against Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Standish Sterling at MLS.
