The St. Louis girls’ varsity basketball team competed against Merrill Nov. 30, 2021, for their season-opener game, and the Sharks won with a blowout score of 51-23.

Starters for the Sharks were Monika Borie, Josie Schrot, Kerrigan Wilson, Natalee Hoyt, and Alexys Rodriguez.

The Sharks started strong with a 27-14 score at the end of the first half. They didn’t stop the pressure as they shut out Merrill in a sharp third quarter leading to the Sharks’ season-opening win!

Leading the Sharks was Schrot who went off draining four 3 pointers equaling 14 points and also had 2 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Freshman Kerrigan Wilson also started off her high school basketball career in stride adding 11 points, 2 steals, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Schrot stated, “This was my first game on varsity ever, and I think it went pretty well! I was really nervous for sure, but I am so excited to play with this group of girls. I think we played to the best of our abilities and hopefully our team will continue to grow as the season goes on.”

Other contributors were Natalee Hoyt and Zoey Clarke each scoring 7 points and 4 rebounds; Jaiden Dickman also added 6. This was their first game on varsity as well.

Borie led the team for rebounds with 6 in total.

The Junior varsity team also picked up a nice 31-26 win! It was a great night to be a Shark.

The Sharks next compete against the Valley Lutheran Chargers in Saginaw, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
