Who is Melanie Martinez? Well, Martinez is one of the most underrated artists of all time.

Martinez has been creating music since 2021 after her appearance on The Voice. Her music is in the genre of Indie pop or alternative pop. One of her famous songs is “Play Date” which was released in 201,5 and another famous song of hers that went famous on TikTok was “Training Wheels.”

Her music talks on touchy subjects, like images society have created, eating disorders, and many more serious issues. Martinez is very expressive in her music. She always is creating a twist or creative way of showcasing real problems within the world. All of her songs have a deep meaning to them– not just meaningless lyrics.

Martinez is a great artist for young adults to turn and listen to. She highlights that everyone has a voice and deserves to be heard and everyone deserves to be accepted. Martinez went through a lot throughout high school allowing her to be able to connect with teens and other people who struggled with school. She provides a great feminist role model for young adults who struggle with a harsh society.

Martinez struck the interest of SLHS with her album K-12, which was released in 2019. This album contained a total of 12 songs that were showcased in the movie that was produced with her songs on Youtube. Many of these songs touched on the subjects of what it’s like to be in high school as well as the struggles many teens deal with. A lot of these songs were on TikTok at one point creating a lot of attention for Martinez.

A writer from the online magazine CelebMix stated, “Melanie is such a unique artist, and she’s not afraid to show it. Her individual style (in both fashion and music) sticks out like a sore thumb, and you’ll absolutely love it all! You wouldn’t be able to find another artist like Melanie.”

Junior Evelynn Gutierrez expressed, “I like Melanie Martinez because a lot of her songs are based on what women go through. For instance,“Mr. Potato Head” discusses body dysphoria. A lot of her songs talk about serious issues in society, but her songs help her listeners.” Gutierrez’s favorite song by Martinez is “Nurse’s office,” but overall she really just enjoyed the K-12 album.

Her songs are captivating and once you really listen to her songs, you won’t want to stop. There is no other artist like her out there.
