The Saint Louis varsity wrestling team traveled to New Lothrop to compete in individual districts Saturday, Feb. 15. The individuals who advanced to regionals were: Robert Long-Terwilligerr, Alex Newton, Dylan Marr, Conner Daniels, Gavin Giles, and Andrew Shattuck.

Coach Kuhn stated, “I felt like we had some decent seeds going into the tournament but also knew some weights were loaded. That always makes me nervous. We got off to a good start that morning and followed with a pretty solid semi-final round. It was better than most of our invitationals this year.” Kuhn added that the goal is always to advance everyone you enter through the district.

Alex [Fig] Newton said, “My energy was kinda low, but it picked up as the day went. My thought process throughout my match was the same, which was ‘do what you’re taught and do everything right.’ I feel pretty good about the 100th win mark, but not all my goals are met.” Newton added that his next goal is to take first at regionals and do the same at State.

Kuhn continued, “It was nice to see Fig pick up his 100th career win. However, it was more important that he won the district title. That was huge going into this weekend.”
