Saint Louis High School has started the second semester off with science research projects with the first due date being Jan. 24.

Every year the science department has students do research projects on a question that interests them. The question has to pertain to the class, and it has to tie back to the real-world.

Zoe Dickman said, “Research projects are beneficial for college and helping students become better presenters in the long run even though they aren’t always the most fun to do.”

Important dates that follow:

  • Ideas Sheet Due: Jan. 24
  • Work Days: Jan. 24 – Feb. 12
  • Poster and Lab Report Due: Feb. 12
  • Poster Walk Through Due: Feb. 13
  • In-Class Presentation: Feb. 18
  • Community Presentation: Feb. 19

The freshmen are expected to work in groups of two to four. It is their first year of projects, and they would be in the deep water without a partner(s). Other grades are able to work independently or in groups two to four.

Logan Koutz said, “I personally think that is more beneficial to do a project instead of a paper because you get to actually test your hypothesis, and be hands-on with your work. I also think it is easier due to the fact you can work in a group rather than alone.” He adds that he believes groups are better because students can make the project fun, and more minds are working together to give you the best results.
