The Saint Louis Varsity and Junior Varsity volleyball team traveled to Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Sept. 4, 2019, for their first TVC West Conference games. Varsity fell to MLS  in four close matches, 15-25, 23-25, 25-18, and 25-26. Junior Varsity lost against MLS in two matches, 17-25 and 22-25.

Captain Maddie Greenup says, “We started really slow and bad, but then we started working together and talking.” She added the hardest struggle throughout the night was the consistency of talking. Greenup said, “The attitudes at the beginning of the match were rough and then proceeded to get better.”

Varsity Coach Tiffany Diaz said, “At the beginning of the match, it was a slow process and as the game progressed we started playing at a better level, and I hope that as the season progresses we will be able to start every match as we finished.” Diaz added the biggest struggle was serving and intensity. Coach Diaz says, “As a team, they had a great attitude. It was a matter of taking the slow start of making it intense as we finish.”

Junior Varsity Captain, Haylee Davis said, “The game started a little rough at first. Serves weren’t going over and we were not getting good passes. By the middle game, we started to get going pretty good.” Davis added that the biggest struggle was getting the rotations right, but as they played the aces were continuous and the hitting was amazing. Davis said, “Even though we lost I think we played pretty well and have room for improvement.”

Co-Captain Izabelle Hrabal said, “The team play was a little scrappy at the beginning, then once we got to the second set we started making the plays like we are capable of doing. The biggest struggle with the team was definitely our rotation and knowing where we needed to be. Then the other really big struggle was calling mine and going for the ball. We would hesitate and then it would be too late to get the ball over the net.” Hrabal added that the attitudes improved during the last few games.

The next TVC West Conference game will be held at Saint Louis High School Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019. Junior Varsity starts at 5:30 P.M. and Varsity will follow.
