Gui Silva pitched in the matinee against Alma.

The St. Louis varsity baseball team clashed with the Alma Panthers Tuesday, May 23. It was the last home game for the Sharks this season and very last home game for senior Michael Heiden and Gui Barbato Silva. The game was a disappointing loss to the Panthers, but the whole SLHS school came out to support the Sharks, as it was a 1 pm start.

One of the main attractions for the student body was watching Brazilian foreign exchange student Gui Silva pitched, however, this outstanding performance was short lived when Silva walked his one and only batter.

Although they were very heavily supported by a lot of people, they could not pull off a victory. Struggled in the field and they couldn’t get the bats going with only five people reaching base the entire game!

Silva said, “It was fun throwing the ball in front of the whole school. Sometimes I could hear people saying,  ‘Go Sharks!’ and it made me happy. Overall it was fun.

Andrew Zimmerman stated, “We played a hard team. The main focus was to play a good game against them and have fun, which a lot of us did.”

This was the last home game of the season, but the Sharks aren’t done just yet. They will try to extend their season as they compete in districts Monday, June 3.
