The Shark Tank’s very own woodworking teacher doubling as life coach, Mr. Maxwell, had a rim-to-rim gruelling hike with a friend of the wondrous sights of the Grand Canyon recently.
This landscaping is found in Arizona, and the canyon itself houses many red rings and shows millions of years of geological history. It stretches 217 miles long, and a width of 10 miles. Not only is it popular for its spectacular sights, but there are many things to do there such as hikes, mule rides, and rafting.
“It was a wide expanse of land with many deep valleys. I had felt intimidated walking the long stretch of land. I had a friend who asked if I wanted to go rim-to-rim and I had said yes. I didn’t know what rim-to-rim meant,” said Maxwell, “This experience has also helped me with my physical health and losing weight. It’s why I also run marathons. I also do it to benefit the student body; to show that no matter what, you can do anything. No matter the mental or physical disability.”
Maxwell had managed to walk the entire way from South to the North of the canyon, despite the hardships and the feeling of wanting to give up. However his perseverance showed through and he was able to overcome the feeling and finish the walk.
“The last five miles were the hardest on the trip, but I had no other choice but to keep going. It costs $10,000 to get rescued there, so there is no option for giving up. You have to keep going,” continued Mr. Maxwell
His trip to the wonder of the world hasn’t gone unnoticed by the student body. Many students have felt inspired by his trip. Junior Ben Godfrey said, “I thought it was really cool. Maybe I’ll do something like that one day, and I’m really proud of how far he went to get there.”
Maxwell stated that in the future he would love to go back and walk the walk again, but going north to south this time. He knows it can take a lot more preparation time for the second go around, but he is more than ready to get back out there and make a difference in the student body with another inspirational trip.
