A common trend in the school this year is the introduction of new technology in classrooms. The technology given out consists of new smart projectors, speakers, document cameras, and desktop computers, and each teacher received a new laptop.
While the advancements are, for the most part, enjoyable, there are also some faults along with the change. However, it’ll be easier to evaluate the effects of the technology on how classrooms are conducted once it’s further into the year.
Math teacher Mr. Passalacqua stated, “It’s definitely all new to me, but it’s nice to be able to write on it and have the display here to there.” He then further exclaimed, “Luckily, I pick up on technology pretty quickly.”
Throughout history, classrooms have progressed to use more technology in general. While some people automatically assume that having technology in classrooms means having distractions, studies have shown that it can sometimes have the opposite effect. In fact, in the article “How To Use Technology in the Classroom: Benefits & Effects,” it’s mentioned that, “The use of technology during whole-class instruction can foster student engagement for auditory and visual learners.”
Spanish teacher Mrs. Bethany Kisser shared, “It’s been pretty easy to adapt to. I have had this kind of projector in a classroom before, though this one is a bit different. There are always things that need to be worked out when there is a lot of new technology, but I’m confident that the tech department will help us work through any issues that come up.” She then said, “Honestly, I’m just really glad to be rid of my “temporary” tabletop projector that I had for 4 years.”
Any new addition to a classroom might be hard to get used to at first but hopefully, the schools’ investments will pay off. These editions may make the process of learning or teaching more efficient and/or easier.
Mr. Passalacqua later disclosed, “I can see it being powerful in an interactive classroom.”
