The varsity boys’ golf team started the season out by placing in the top three for four out of four invitationals they entered and are currently tied for third in the conference.

The first big accomplishment of the season was at the Chip Hills 18-hole scramble. Grant Mills and Spencer Sherwood shot a 73 together and won the scramble individually as well as the team overall placed second just two strokes behind Manistee. Luke and Noah Harry also shot an 83.

“It was early in the season and (we) knew that it was a tournament that was winnable for us. There were a lot of big schools there, but we knew that we could compete. We didn’t feel all that sure after we got done what we placed. It felt amazing when they said we won and also placed second as a team. We shot a 73 and we both knew we would have shot lower. We didn’t take advantage of some of the short par fives but did what we needed to do. Our team as a whole came in second place behind Manistee. We were thrilled and are definitely hoping to get back out there and hopefully bring home a couple more trophies,” said Sherwood.

Additionally, April 18, the boys golfed at the Lakeview Invite at the St. Ive’s Golf Course. After a long day filled with bad weather conditions, they came out with the championship in the gold division.

Also, at the Alma Invitational, the team placed third out of 15 teams. Mills shot an 82 and overall placed second; Sherwood shot a 94 and Noah Harry with a 99.

In the TVC jamboree, the boys are currently tied for third. The jamboree began in Alma and they shot a 180 and took second all together. Mills shot a 38, Noah Harry had a 45, Sherwood shot 48, and Luke Harry shot a 49. Furthermore, the team showed improvement by shooting a 175 at the conference match in Ithaca. Sherwood shot a 41, Mills, Luke Harry and Noah Harry all shot a 42, and Gavin Giles shot a 46. The boys are currently tied for third in the league and will continue competing at jamborees for four more weeks.

“This season has already been super exciting. We have been working as a team by shooting our best and keeping our scores low. A lot of us did a lot of off-season work, and it’s really paying off. I’m super excited to see how far we can make it as a team this year,” said Grant Mills.
