Was Aquaman box office bait or did it flounder?

Aquaman, the long-anticipated Detective Comics (DC) film, made its debut December 21, 2018. Aquaman depicts the city of Atlantis, once the most advanced civilization in the world, now underwater and ruled by power-hungry King Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother. Orm has a plan to take over the rest of the oceanic people and eventually those on the surface. Aquaman, who is half-human, half-Atlantean, is the rightful heir to the throne and plans to stop Orm. To do so, he must locate the trident of Atlan with the help of royal counselor Vulko.

Jade Drayton commented, “I want to see Aquaman because I really enjoy DC films. I think the movie would be interesting. Jason Momoa is also really attractive.”

Personally, I thought this movie was fairly good, despite not knowing much about the DC universe. The acting was phenomenal and the best part of the movie; Jason Momoa portrayed Aquaman very accurately. I also really liked Amber Heard’s portrayal of Mera. The visual effects, while not astounding, were pretty decent. However, the plot was a bit hard to follow and a little dull. The end fight scene between Orm and Aquaman was a bit underwhelming, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. While I don’t think that Aquaman deserves movie of the year or anything of the sort, it was a fun watch and a good redemption for DC from what I’ve heard.

According to Audrey Johnson, “I liked the movie, but I felt like it was a little boring and dragged on a little. I felt there was going to be more of the people on land fighting the sea people, but it never really happened that way. I really liked the beginning where it told how his mom and dad met; that was really cool.”
