The St. Louis wrestling team went 2-0 at their home quad against Carrollton and Chesaning.

The team began the quad by overpowering the Carrollton Cavaliers 70-9. Taking wins during this dual was Eli Abbott, Ryan Downs, Isaac Howd, Brandon Wood, Luke Maxwell, Modestie Hitchcock, Alex Newton, Craig Bebow, Tristin Baker, Gavin Giles, Alex McDonald, and Robert Russell.

The Sharks later faced Chesaning and had a very close dual that came down to the final match. With one match left, the team was only winning by six points; so in order to secure the win, senior Eli Abbott had to make sure he didn’t get pinned. Even though Abbott didn’t win his match, he made sure he didn’t let his team down by keeping his match close within points. St. Louis came out victorious against Chesaning 39-36. Downs, Jacob Brown, Howd, Ean Bradley, Maxwell, and Giles all came out victorious during their matchups.

“As a team, each week we are getting better and better. I’m excited to see what we overcome this season, and it’s great to see everyone contributing to the team,” said Giles.

After practicing and weighing in on Friday, the team traveled and stayed in Hart to compete the next day. After a long 12-hour tournament, the team overall placed fifth out of 17 teams and had three individual medalists. Alex Newton and Ryan Downs both placed fourth, meanwhile Eli Abbott placed third.

“The Hart tournament was overall a great experience. It was an awesome time to finally get a chance to bond with all of the teammates and a great experience to wrestle against really tough competition,” said Downs.

The Sharks will compete against Shepherd at the annual assembly dual in Shepherd at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
