St. Louis High School senior Natalie Hoyt made Shark golf history Monday, Sept. 25, after she hit a hole-in-one during the Alma Panther Classic, which was held at the Pine River Country Club. Hoyt aced hole 17, from 120 yards with her nine iron and finished with a 93. This achievement is one to remember, as the odds of hitting a hole-in-one are 12,500 to 1. Hoyt has never been close to a hole-in-one before and was shocked by her accomplishment.
“I was extremely shocked and didn’t even believe that I had just hit a hole-in-one,” Hoyt said. Her shock was felt by most people at St. Louis when they heard, as most golfers can go their entire lives without hitting a hole-in-one, which just makes this feat all the more impressive. “I was super excited when I heard that she got it, and I think it’s awesome cause it’s 1 in 12,500!” Fellow senior Kylie Acker said. Another excited senior, Olivia Good, said, “I was super proud of Nat when I heard about her hitting the hole-in-one. That’s a super awesome achievement for anyone, but she definitely deserved it.”
According to her coach, Mrs. Biehl, “I was with another group on a hole nearby and heard her yell to Emma that it went in!” Biehl added that it’s a cool accomplishment for any golfer, especially one in high school. “Nat is a great teammate which makes me even happier for her. She puts in time on her own on the weekends to hit the range which has helped her be successful this season.”
“This was a super cool experience that not everyone gets to do and I was lucky to hit a hole-in-one my senior year when some people have never even hit close to a hole-in-one.” Hoyt’s outstanding talent can definitely be attributed to more than “a stroke of luck” as she continues to be a strong member of the Girl’s Golf team for her final year at St. Louis High School. The next golf game is on Oct. 12, at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club for the Girls MHSAA Regional Tournament, so be sure to keep an eye out for more golf results.
