The St. Louis Sharks football team has had a tough few weeks out on the field during the month of September. The first game, an away game against the Ithaca Yellowjackets Friday, Sept. 15, resulted in a loss of 0-56. The most recent game, a home game against Nouvel Catholic Central, was another loss of 6-41.
Despite all the losses, though, the Sharks remain strong. Some standout players on the team have been working hard to make the team succeed. Sophomore Michael Borie Jr. and junior Justin Rodriguez both hold high ranks when it comes to sacks, and Borie also holds a high rank with his interceptions. Some other high flyers include junior Trenton Farkas and senior Joshua Dew, Farkas being great at gaining receiving yards and Dew being great rushing yards respectively.
Sophomore Tiger Russell shared his thoughts regarding the St. Louis loss streak. “I mean, it can be discouraging, but I know our team can pull through.”
The student section of SLHS agrees. Regarding the updates on Shark football, senior Jaiden Dickman, who can often be spotted in the stands of a football game, shared her thoughts.
“It’s still fun to go to games, even if the team loses because being in the student section is a lot of fun. There’s a lot of energy there and there’s a ton of teams and clubs working together to make the game fun.”
Dickman doesn’t entirely believe that the student section impacts how the team plays. “I don’t think that we as a student section impact how the team plays, but we do bring a lot of energy to the games,” the senior stated.
Hopefully with upcoming games the Sharks will be able to get back onto the winning side. Dickman, as well as the others in the student section, will be there to cheer them on nonetheless.
The Sharks will get back in gear with an away game against Millington Friday, Sept. 29.
