The varsity girls’ golf team made history Saturday, Oct. 13, by placing in the top three to make it to the state finals for the first time in school history.

According to Starr Hansen, “It felt so good to know that we finally made it to state once all of the results were in. We have been planning and practicing for this all season, and I am happy that everything pays off. Placing third in the region as a team and second individually are huge accomplishments, and I am hoping that the team does our best yet next week at State.”

The match was originally planned for Friday but was postponed to Saturday due to poor course conditions. The girls didn’t let this get in their heads. The team’s main goal this year and the past two years was to make it to the state finals, and they finally achieved it. They overall shot a 417 and took third. Starr Hansen pulled through for the team in a huge way and shot a 94. Hansen also placed second in the region overall.

The past two years, the lady Sharks have just missed the state meet opportunity by less than 10 strokes; they weren’t going to let this year slip away. They have been hoping for this moment all year and have had a very successful season

The girls will be competing against 18 teams Oct 19, and Oct 20, in Allendale at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
