Softball and Baseball Teams Smash It at Home Tournament

Senior Bryce Francisco celebrates a tournament well done

The varsity softball and baseball teams competed at home tournaments May 20, 2023. The softball team competed in the Coach Hanline Annual Grand Slam Tournament, while the baseball team competed in the St.Louis Varsity Baseball Tournament. 

The baseball team started the day beating Lakeview by a score of 5-4, which advanced them to the championship game where they fell short to the Shepherd Bluejays10-6. The team is currently 4-24 for the season with one doubleheader left for regular season competition. 

 The softball team started the day by beating Montabella 13-5, they then beat Ashley 13-0, advancing them to the finals where they defeated Bad Axe by a score of 5-0.

Senior Payton Kuhn said, “Honestly, when I was playing in the tournament it hadn’t really hit that it was my last tournament, but afterward I was sad. I  struggled a little bit with my hitting, but overall our team played well. We really couldn’t have ended my last home tournament any better!” 

Freshman Halle Hoyt said, “The tournament went very well. I think that I did well. And as a team we did amazing and it showed in the results.”

The Shark Softball team defeated the Merrill Vandals in a double header May 24, by scores of 10-0 and 5-0, while the baseball team dropped both games. The girls end their regular season at 29-9 and will host districts June 2.
