Saint Louis softball and baseball teams both successfully competed at home Friday, April 25.

Softball played Alma and won both games. Everyone did their part in helping contribute to the victory. Senior pitcher Izzy Hrabal had 11 strikes, gave up four hits, and took the game one win 10-0. Along with Hrabal, Payton Kuhn also had a fantastic night on the mound. Kuhn had 10 strikeouts, gave up 3 hits, and took the win 11-1. A lot of the girls hit well; Payton Kuhn was six for seven, Monika Borie three  for four, Phoenix Shaw three for five, Izabelle Hrabal two for five, Halle Hoyt two for four, Tekoha Henry two for five, and Miranda Strong two for six.

Kuhn expressed, “Last Friday’s games went really well for us. We started hitting the ball hard and didn’t make many errors in the field. We definitely will use that game as a confidence boost going into tougher games coming up.”

The baseball team scored their first conference win of the season against Saginaw Nouvel. They lost their first game 4-7. Six of seven runs were scored in the first inning . Senior pitcher Thomas Zacharko had a good night on the mound and helped keep the team on track and get over mental hurdles and stay tough. The team won their second game with a score of 3-0. Ethan Shattuck pitched the second game and did well to dominate. The rest of the team played good defense which was the determining factor for the team to come away with the win.

Senior Dylan Luft shared, “It was a crazy comeback after the other team’s pitcher got hit in the face. We kept fighting hard and defending well. We put some runs across the board. In the end, we got the dub on the second game. It was an exciting moment because we each set goals for ourselves and they got accomplished.”

The girls and boys will be back in action April 27, 2023, at Bullock Creek starting at 4:00 p.m.
