SLHS Varsity Bowling Teams compete at regional meet at Riverwood Bowling Alley

The Saint Louis varsity bowling team competed Friday Feb. 24, at the bowling regional meet at Riverwood Bowling Alley. The boys placed 14th and the girls placed ninth. Junior Lilly Massaway and Junior Madyson Hartman both qualified individually for the Singles Bowling State Competition.  The total pin fall for the boys team was, 2,343 pins, and the girl’s was, 2,127 pins. 

Hartman finished sixth with 976 points for her individual series. Massaway finished ninth at regionals, and she bowled a high game of 201 points. After six games she had 963 points scored. This is Massaway and Hartman’s second time qualifying for the singles competition. 

The Sharks bowling team had a much larger roster this year than last year. With this bigger roster, they were able to fill a boys’ varsity, boys’ JV, varsity girls’, and JV girls teams. Each team must be comprised of at least seven bowlers. 

Hartman said, “Regionals went very well, and I ended up bowling 12 pins above my average from the season. I am very excited to be going back to state for the second year in a row.” 

 Massaway said, “Overall my season had been pretty rocky. I really started to pick it up though at our team conference. I’m excited to compete for the second year in a row and am hoping to improve from last year.”

Senior captain Danielle Thelen said, “The opportunity to bowl regionals as a senior was a heartwarming but bitter-sweet monument. Having my family and teammates there supporting me, I felt truly honored to end a four-year long bowling career with such a wonderful, talented group of girls.”

The team state finals tournament will take place following this the singles state competition will be held Friday Mar. 3- 4, 2023 at the M66 Bowling Alley in Battle Creek.
