The junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball teams traveled to Farwell Tuesday, Jan. 3. This was the first game coming off Christmas break, and both teams came out on top with big wins.

The varsity boys came out on top 54-48. Thomas Zacharko led the team with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals. Wisdom Zanquo was close behind with 17 points, five assists, and five steals. Junior Josh Dew commented, “We tried different lineups since we had different guys back to experiment some plays and mixed up the defense a little at times. We struggled a bit with being out-rebounded at the start of the first half which let Farwell hang on with us. Despite being frustrated, we adjusted what we needed to in the second half and added to our leaders to take home the win. We did very well at moving the ball around and hustling on the transitions from offensive to defense. I am very hopeful for the rest of the season and excited to see what the upcoming weeks have in store for us as a team. ” The varsity team has now advanced to have a record of 3-3 and is ready to move forward with the rest of the season and take home some more wins.

The JV team also came out on top against Farwell 40-28. All of the boys played very well throughout the game. Freshman Hayden Shattuck said, “Coming off Christmas break, we struggled through the game, but we ended up coming out on top. I can say I am very proud of my team and how we have pushed through all of the struggles we’ve had. I think we did very well at pushing through being tired and we hustled down the court between offense and defense. I am excited to see how we evolve as a team and I hope we can take home some more wins throughout the rest of the season that is to come.”

The boys’ teams are moving into the rest of the week with their heads held high and ready to play. The JV boys are back in action at the Shark Tank with the JV girls Thursday, Jan. 5 against Valley Lutheran. The varsity boys and girls are on the road Friday, Jan. 6, against Valley Lutheran as well.
