While golfing at their home course, Hidden Oaks, the varsity girls’ golf team took fourth out of 12 at the Shark Classic, Monday Sept. 17.

“It was a super difficult day. It was great weather, but the mosquitos were awful. I had to re-apply mosquito spray every hole, but the bugs were still super distracting. Although the scores we all shot weren’t awful, they definitely weren’t our best. In my opinion, Hidden Oaks is one of the hardest courses in the area and we are hoping for a better turn out for our next outings,” said Olivia Anderson.

With a mosquito infested day ahead of them, the girls tried to stay positive. Although they did not shoot their best overall, the team pulled through with consistent scores and brought home fourth place by shooting a 404.  Senior Alexis Beeson also tied for ninth individually out of 49 golfers by shooting a 97. Following Beeson was Modestie Hitchcock who shot a 101. Starr Hansen and Allison Taipalus, both close behind, shot a 103.

Beeson said, “Placing at this invite was a super big accomplish of mine. Our home course is super difficult and there were a lot of talented golfers at the Shark Classic. Overall, it was a great experience and prep for regionals because most of the teams who competed are also in our region. This year is looking great for our team and I cannot wait to see what is yet to come.”

The girls are still remaining two strokes behind their rival Shepherd and have a league outing Wednesday Sept. 19, at Maple Creek Golf Course, which is Shepherd’s home course.
