The St. Louis varsity volleyball team fell to the Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central Panthers, Wednesday, Oct. 6. The team lost in a hard-fought five sets.

The girls dropped the first set 19-25, then came back to win the next two sets 25-19, and 25-23. The ladies then lost the last two sets 18-25 and 10-15.

Senior Delaney Hitsman stated, “I feel like this is a game we could have won. But even though we lost, I think that we were playing strong in the first couple of sets. We just have to be able to keep that energy throughout the whole game. We have a lot of potential as a team, and we could win a lot more games if we really show that.”

Leading the lady Sharks was Korah Honig with 19 kills, 12 digs, 2 aces. Kiersten Francisco had 9 kills, 1 ace, and 18 digs. Alexys Rodriguez had 33 assists, 5 kills, and 15 digs. Phoenix Shaw had 8 kills, 2 aces, and 4 digs.

Honig stated, “I think we came together and worked hard. We just fell behind with our defense. The other team had some power hitters that made it difficult to pass up. But I think as a team we did our best and worked as hard as we could.”

The Sharks compete against the Valley Lutheran Chargers on the road Wednesday, Oct. 13.
