Over the weekend, both boys’ junior varsity and varsity teams played Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy at home. Both teams dominated against the Dragons. The varsity team, led by Coach Knauf, won 60-31 Friday. The JV team also won 50-32 as well.

The varsity game started off like usual with back and forth scoring. Then the Sharks took the lead and ran with it in the second quarter. Avante Taylor led with 17 points with Cade Pestrue right behind with 16. Coach Knauf said, “Everyone shot the ball nicely….We are getting better —  that is key.” He continued by saying how the season has been going; “We have had lots of close games; so far we have five games that came down to last possession. We have two more games this week and districts start on Tuesday, so we are getting ready for that.”

Both JV and varsity teams have had average seasons but anticipated a win from each of their games. Joshua Dew, a guard on the JV team, thinks that too. He shared, “The season is going decent, and we are getting better each game and growing well as a team. We are seeing improvement with everyone from the beginning to the end of the season.”

Since districts are around the corner, many varsity players are on their toes. Logan Koutz, a guard on the varsity team, said, “We are really excited for districts and believe that if we can stick to our game plan, then we have a good shot at bringing a district title home. Hard practices and lots of scouting have gone into preparing for every game, and that won’t change for districts.”
