Netflix releases new movie To All the Boys: Always and Forever
February 26, 2021
Have you ever heard of a popular yet shy girl that goes by the name Lara Jean or an athletic yet compassionate boy that goes by the name Peter Kavinsky? If not, Netflix is your best friend! All three movies that come in the series are available to watch on Netflix. The first movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is followed by the sequel To All the Boys: P.S. I Love You, and then the final movie is To All the Boys: Always and Forever. These movies have different storylines with the same main characters being played in all three of them.
When To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was released in 2018, it was one of Netflix’s most popular movies and ended up making the top 10 on the movie category. As Jenny Han continued making additional movies to the first one, the amount of intensity soared as her audience waited until another movie from the series was released. As soon as the second movie was released, the third movie was already being directed. Finally, on Feb. 12, 2021, the last movie of the series was released and was officially called To All the Boys: Always and Forever.
To All the Boys: Always and Forever is based off of the first two movies of the series. In the first movie, Lara Jean Song Covey suffers the embarrassing ordeal of having her old love letters sent to crushes. One of the receivers, Peter Kavinsky, hatches a plan to be in a fake relationship with Lara Jean to make his ex-girlfriend jealous, and the experience ends up bringing them into a real relationship. Then, in To All the Boys P.S. I Still Love You, Lara Jean navigates the insecurities of first love while exploring old feelings for another of the boys she loved before, John Ambrose. Now, slightly more confident and eyeing a future filled with romance, college and writing success, Lara Jean starts To All the Boys: Always and Forever on a hopeful note. Her dreams never seemed closer, but she’s about to learn one of life’s tougher lessons– the future doesn’t always go according to plan.
The movie received a mostly positive reaction with Rotten Tomatoes awarding it an 80 percent approval rating, and IMDb giving the movie a six-star rating as an average score. Students at SLHS love the movie series as well, and many have watched it at home through Netflix.
Junior Kaylyn Collins mentioned, “Well for starters, it’s overall the best movie out of them all so far! For it being the third movie, I expected it to be decent, but it was better than the first and second movies. It showed the raw emotions of what it could be like in a relationship and going off into the real world. I highly recommend this movie if you’re looking for a good laugh, maybe cry, or just to smile.”
Senior Autumn Bradbury commented, “I thought the movie To All the Boys: Always and Forever was amazing! I laughed and shed a few tears too, although I did find a lot of the movie to be quite predictable. I would definitely watch it again though because it was a lot better than the second movie in my opinion!”
