The Lady Sharks came out strong Oct. 18, 2025, at their home “Spirit of St. Louis” tournament, beating Merrill and splitting with Bath and Saginaw Heritage, which put them in second place heading into bracket play. In the semifinals, the ladies faced Breckenridge and took the victory in two sets! The ladies faced Saginaw Heritage again in the championship match. This time the Sharks defeated them in two straight sets to take home the title.
Teamwork proved to be the defining factor in the ladies’ success. Sophomore Olivia Brown had an awesome day with 70 kills, four blocks, 17 aces, 22 digs, and 28 serve receptions! Brown states, “I listen to music and I come up with a game plan in my head, in warmups I focus on little technical things and I try to get hype with everyone. What helps with my performance is to not be too tense about things and let mistakes go, that is how the game works and I don’t let that control me. I feel really good and confident when I play, I’m very proud and I have fun!”
Brown demonstrated consistent leadership and skill on the court, setting the pace for her teammates throughout the tournament. Defensively, Emma Seleski led the way with 33 digs and 72 serve receptions, while Skyler Post added 30 digs and 22 serve receptions, and Myah Sahr chipped in 15 digs and 25 serve receptions. Their energy shined bright, inspiring other players to keep going and to stay positive. As the season comes to an end, it’s very sad for some of these players to say goodbye.
Scottylnn Francisco and Alyssa DeLong are both seniors and this was their last tournament here at SLHS. Tears were shed and hugs were shared between these girls and their teammates. Francisco shares, “It’s definitely a bitter sweet feeling, a lot of emotions run through my body 24/7, but when I’m on that court, only one thing matters to me and that’s the game. This has been one of my best seasons in my high school career. We’ve beaten teams we haven’t in years. We won our home tournament for the first time in a long time, and I feel like my team is a well-oiled machine all together. ”
It’s been quite a while since they’ve brought home the championship from their own tournament, and this group made it happen! What an unforgettable way to finish this out! The Lady Sharks maintained composure, focus, and strong communication, securing a well-deserved championship title through disciplined play and collective effort.
