Students selected for end-of-the-year academic honors had their photos taken Tuesday, May 20, in the high school cafeteria to later be displayed on the school’s Facebook page.
At the end of each school year, these honors are given to recognize students who achieved accomplishments and or applied maximum effort to their individual classes or academic clubs. Who received each award is kept quiet until revealed at the end of the school year.
Business teacher Andrea Biehl, who is responsible for nominating students for many of her classes as well as Business Professionals of America, stated, “When it comes to nominating students, it’s really about kids who stand out and are often willing to put in extra effort, whether that’s about taking on additional responsibilities or showing more interest in the subject than others. For the BPA leadership award, that one particularly goes to students who take on responsibility, do extra work, and aren’t afraid of assisting new people. Grades are not necessarily a factor in the nominating process, and that can help recognize students who are just putting in the extra effort.”
Lily Wing shared, “I haven’t gotten one of these before, so I’m really happy that I was able to get one this year. I’m proud that I’ve been able to achieve this. It sucks that I have to wait until the end of the school year to find out what class I won it for though. I do think it definitely encourages students to maybe participate in classes more or even just be more passionate about what they’re learning.”
Fellow nominee Gracie Lombard explained, “I like the awards because it’s a good way to recognize students in all subject matters, and it can get kids more involved in school. Of course, I’m happy about my award, and I hope others can get one in the future.”
