The St. Louis High School softball team proudly hosted the fourth Annual Coach Hanline Grand Slam Tournament Saturday, May 17. The Sharks kicked off the first game against Dansville with Paige Luneack on the mound striking out eight. They ended the first game with a great win 4-2. Then the girls moved on to game two against Beaverton leading the whole game. The Sharks ended the game with a big win of 15-0 in three innings, which sent them to the championship game. In the championship, the Sharks were up against Lake Fenton, but unfortunately fell short of the win 0-8.
Senior Brynn Saxton stated, “It was sad knowing it was my last time playing on the field. Playing for four years and it coming to an end is very sad for me.” Saxton added, “I think I personally did well. I hit well throughout those games and played well in the field. The team did well in both games, however in the last game we fell apart and didn’t play our best.”
Sophomore Paige Luneack commented, “I think I personally did pretty well, I was throwing hard and throwing strikes, and didn’t walk many. I feel very saddened by the seniors leaving, I will miss their laughter, their constant jokes, and making fun of them. They truly will be missed. I think we will do pretty well next year without the seniors, even though all three have heavily impacted our team.” She then added, “We have strong eighth graders coming up next year so I hope they will fill the spots that the seniors are leaving for them. The team did well in the tournament at the beginning of the day, winning both games. The third game we couldn’t get our bats going and had some errors in the field, Like we weren’t ready to play. That is something we will have to work on, but it was good to see a good team and prepare for Ithaca in our first round of districts.”
Overall, The girls played well to earn a second-place finish. The girls were away in action again Tuesday, May 20, against Gladwin.
