A large debate going viral on the internet and social media at the moment is this question: Would 100 men or one silverback gorilla win in a battle?
A silverback gorilla is no doubt an intimidating animal. A male silverback gorilla is known for its incredible strength and large stature; they are on average 600 pounds! Also, it has been studied and found that these tough animals have an immense bite force of over 1,300 pounds, and are more than capable of lifting and throwing nearly 2,000 pounds at a single moment in time.
So, it’s obvious that the gorilla would completely outmatch just one human being, but, we have to take into consideration that we’re talking about 100 average men. The average U.S. man is nearly 190 pounds and 5’9”.
With all of the statistics in mind, who do students think will win?
Devanz Svelti-Cruz had very strong thoughts on this debate in favor of the 100 men: “The men would win. All of them would be hopped off on adrenaline just to go against one gorilla. I think people are forgetting how strong the men actually are, and they are over-exaggerating the gorilla in the situation too.”
On the other hand, Zoey Clarke was in favor of the one gorilla in the battle. She said, “I think the gorilla would win because they’re much stronger than men both physically and mentally.”
Remington Snyder was most definitely siding with the 100 men. He stated, it’s literally 100 men and it’s only one gorilla, like come on. Gorillas are also not nearly as smart as a man, let alone 100 of them. With a bunch of people ganging up against the gorilla, it stands no chance.”
Overall, students are very divided in this debate, and there will likely not be a solution decided upon for a while.
