The St. Louis girls’ and boys’ track teams competed at the Shepherd Invitational track meet at Shepherd High School Friday, May 2.
The boys’ team came in eighth place for small schools, scoring 33 points overall. The girls’ team placed seventh place in small school scoring 21 points.
Despite the struggles scoring as a team, there were some individuals who had a great meet day at Shepherd. For all team personal bests on the day, Noah Tripp had a PR in the 400-meter dash running 54.77; Hayden Shattuck also had a PR in the 400-meter dash with 55.12; Merick Bartlett threw a PR of 116′ 3″ in discus; finally, Landon Pestrue raced 9:30 in the Shepherd Elite 3200 run.
Bartlett still wants to strive for more in his throwing events regardless of getting a PR at the meet. He said, “It was a pretty good feeling considering I’ve been in a slump with discus. I definitely can do better though. My goals for the rest of the season is to hit 120” in discus and 40” in shot put.
Tripp was surprised to say the least with his PR on Friday. He stated, “I thought it was pretty fun to run in the 400 at Shepherd. It felt like I was gonna run five seconds slower than my other PR, but I ended up racing a lot faster for how I felt, which was surprising.”
Jackson Schulz ran a season record of 5:18 in the 1600. He claimed, “It felt terrible to run a second off of my PR for like the fourth time in a row. Mr. PuffPaff told me I was at my plateau, and we both know that a big drop is coming for my mile time.”
The Sharks will be racing their next big meet at Pinconning for the Jack Pine Conference Championships, Saturday, May 10.
