The St. Louis High School junior varsity and varsity softball teams both had games Thursday, May 8, against Harrison. Varsity was home and junior varsity was away. Junior varsity played very well dominating Harrison both games with the first score being 32-1. The girls mercied Harrison in the second game ending in the third inning with the score of 18-3. The varsity team as well had awesome games crushing Harrison with a victory in the first game 16-1. They then dominated again in the second game by the final score of 19-3.
Varsity player junior Scottlynn Francisco stated, “I think the games that night went very well. We mercied them the first game and won by 16 the second game.” She then added, “I think I played very well. I had pretty good hits and I also fielded pretty well. I just think we need to be a little more hype for the upcoming games, even though we are winning by a lot. Having fun and being rowdy is the best part of softball.”
Junior varsity pitcher Ashleigh Devine commented, “I think the two games went really well. Everyone got at least one hit. We had very few errors and played well as a team and cheered everyone on.” Devine also said, “I think I did so much better hitting. I never struck out. I either got walked or hit the ball really hard. Pitching went really well also. I threw some really nice change ups, and I walked a lot less people than I have in past games. I think what I need to improve more on is hitting. I need to keep my head down and not pull it like I have been recently. I could also improve on my pitching by walking less people and being more accurate and having more speed.”
Overall, both teams played great games with both of them dominating. The varsity team played again Friday, May 9, away against Ogemaw Heights. The junior varsity’s next game was Monday, May 12, at home against Newaygo.
