St. Louis High School recently held Prom at the Alma College Heritage Center April 26, 2025.
The Prom theme for this year was “Sugar Rush Soiree,” featuring a loaded dessert table and festive candy-themed decorations–plus a photo booth. This event took lots of planning and effort from the Prom Committee. From ordering Crumbl cookies and chocolate fountains to renting out the venue and tables, the committee planned it all. Committee member Saige Chase shared, “There was a LOT of planning going into prom! We had to do so many things for fundraising like popcorn Friday every week, football squares, bake sales, and more. I did enjoy prom. It was very fun and was a very rewarding process to see all of mine, Halle, and Mrs. Godwin’s hard work pay off.”
Students had a blast at the event, complementing everything from the photo booth to the DJ. The dessert table was also a hit with students stacking their plates high with donuts, cookies, brownies, ice cream, and chocolate-covered fruit.
Additionally, the dance floor was energetic throughout the night, especially when crowd-favorite songs such as “Macarena” and “Cupid Shuffle” were played. In fact, junior Benjamin Godfrey in his candy-themed outfit was on the dance floor dancing to the “Macarena,” even during many songs after the song stopped playing. “I loved prom this year. It was amazing. I think it was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time,” stated Godfrey. “I did the ‘Macarena’ for so long just as a small joke, nothing else. My outfit was inspired by candy. I was actually kind of shocked when I got there and people weren’t wearing stuff that wasn’t even candy related. I personally thought it would be more fun to have a fun, candy themed outfit,” he shared.
Another highlight of the prom was the crowning of the prom king and queen, as well as the prom prince and princess. Juniors voted for prom prince and princess, and seniors voted for who they wanted crowned as prom queen and king. Elizabeth Starry was crowned as prom queen, with Julian Orta-Vazquez being crowned as king. Prom princess was Trinity Bergey, and prom prince was Xander Brock. “I felt honored to receive prom queen. It is not something everyone gets to experience. I am glad to have experienced my last prom. It was an end to a chapter in my life, and I am excited to begin the next,” shared Starry.
The event was a clear success, and students already can’t wait for the next school dance.
